HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES.

Welcome back to the JJB blog! We hope you all stayed safe during the festivities and you’re coping throughout Lockdown 3.0 – bingeing on Netflix series is certainly getting us through. If you got engaged over the Christmas period, we’d like to wish you a huge congratulations here from the team at Jill Jones Bridal. Although times are feeling uncertain right now and you may be more anxious than excited, things `*will* get better and you *will* be able to celebrate that all important ‘I Do’ moment. We want to continue to immerse you in ALL the wedding pretty along with planning advice and inspiration, so we’re here to talk about bridesmaid dresses.

Asking your favourite woman in the world is without a doubt, one of the most memorable parts of the planning journey and we’re sure you have known for a little while who you’d ask to be a member of your #BrideTribe. But with a team of bridesmaids comes the almighty task of finding their aisle style. Whether you’ve got two or ten bridesmaids, it can often be a challenge to find dresses that suit all different shapes, sizes and styles. Here’s how to make sure your best girls feel confident and comfortable on your wedding day…

(We’ll also let you into a little secret; our brand-new bridesmaid collection is going to make you weak at the knees ladies).

Tip One

First things first, choosing your bridesmaid dresses should be FUN. Make a day out of it (post-lockdown) by starting the day with prosecco and brunch – this will be particularly useful if your bridesmaids don’t already know each other. Then it’s time to head out shopping! If you’re shopping for your bridesmaid gowns during lockdown, you can still have a virtual shopping day via Zoom with plenty of bubbles!

Tip Two

Organise another date (in person or via Zoom) when your bridesmaids can try on the dresses together. Again, make it fun and relaxed as your ladies may be feeling a little self-conscious. Ensure everyone is happy and excited to wear their outfits – you could always drop them a message afterwards too just to double-check. Having everyone in their wedding outfits will certainly help the excitement build in the lead-up to your wedding day and everything will start feeling a little more real.

Tip Three

If you’ve given your gals complete freedom when it comes to choosing their attire, we’d recommend offering them subtle direction to help them on their way and in turn, to reduce any stress. If you’re having a pink wedding colour scheme, perhaps offer them a palette of pink shades that you’d be happy for them to wear – this is also a fab idea if you’ve gone down the route of mismatched gowns / jumpsuits etc.

Tip Four

On that note; let’s talk about mismatched bridesmaid dresses. This is still a huge trend and it looks like it’s here to stay, however for your ‘maids to look ‘coordinated’ you will need to ensure one element of every gown is the same. This can include the colour, hem length, material or neckline – without this, your girls will end up looking like guests.

Tip Five

When choosing your bridesmaid dresses, don’t forget about the season that you’re tying the knot in. If you’re getting wed in the spring or summer months, you can opt for lighter, floaty materials in floral patterns and pastel palettes. For those who are getting married in the autumn or winter months, make sure your best girls stay warm and cosy with cute cardigans or faux fur shrugs.

Tip Six

You may want to gift your bridesmaids with a little ‘thank you’ present to show them how much you appreciate them standing by your side on your special day. A dainty bracelet, necklace or pair of earrings will be something they can wear on your wedding but also cherish forever. Don’t forget about organising their hair, make-up, shoes and accessories! Consider if you want them to all wear matching accessories and hairstyles or decide on their own.
